Brow Lamination and Retinol: What to Stop Before Treatment

Before brow lamination, most people focus on the brow hairs. The skin underneath them deserves the same attention. Retinoids, exfoliating acids, acne treatments, recent waxing, and other procedures can leave the area more sensitive even when there is no obvious wound.

Retinol and prescription retinoids increase skin cell turnover and can make some people more prone to dryness, peeling, and irritation. Alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids exfoliate the skin. Benzoyl peroxide and other acne treatments may also cause dryness or sensitivity.

How long should you stop active skin care?

There is no responsible universal number for every ingredient, strength, prescription, and person. Follow the instructions for the brow product and ask the professional who prescribed or recommended your skin care. Do not stop a prescription medication without medical guidance.

If the skin is peeling, sore, sunburned, recently waxed, or actively irritated, postpone the lamination. Waiting for the barrier to recover is more important than keeping a beauty schedule.

Why does waxing matter?

Wax removes hair but can also lift superficial skin cells. Combining it too closely with retinoid use or a chemical brow service may increase irritation. Threading and tweezing do not use wax, but they can still leave temporary redness and tiny areas of inflammation.

Plan brow shaping and lamination according to the instructions for the exact products and services involved. Do not assume that a routine seen in a short social video is suitable for your skin.

What about skin care after lamination?

Keep strong active ingredients away from the brow area during the aftercare period stated by the manufacturer. When you restart them, do so only if the skin is calm. If you experience persistent redness, swelling, blistering, marked itching, or pain, stop cosmetic products on the area and seek appropriate medical advice.

A better brow result begins with healthy skin. The treatment should fit around your skin care and medical needs, not override them.
